CASE STUDY

Delaware's Sustainable Energy Utility Expands and Optimizes Collaborative Programs with energyOrbit

About the Customer

The Delaware’s Sustainable Energy Utility (DESEU) was created in 2007 by the State of Delaware to foster a sustainable energy future for the State. Its energy efficiency and renewable program, called Energize Delaware, is focused on helping Delawareans save money, create jobs and improve the environment. The DESEU collaborates with a variety of industry partners, including the University of Delaware and the Delaware Division of Energy and Climate. DESEU crafted a Statewide Energy Savings Database to log all energy program information - including utilities and other outside agencies

About the Challenge

While working with numerous parties, DESEU needed a way to easily capture and organize data and results from various energy efficiency and renewable energy programs for replicable and simplified reporting, collaboration and consistency. Prior to utilizing energyOrbit, DESEU was struggling with laborious Excel spreadsheets and other non-unified methods for the capture, analysis and sharing of data.

The lack of a central, connected hub of information led to a hazy image of what programs and measures would be most successful across the state. Similarly, Energize Delaware program implementers lacked the ability to manage and submit their program performance data through a simple to use, web-based interface.

About the Solution

In 2017, Delaware Sustainable Energy Utility (DESEU) Selected energyOrbit as its as a Statewide Energy Savings Database platform for the DESEU’s Energize Delaware programs, as well as select programs at the Delaware Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control (DNREC).

With energyOrbit, the DESEU could more efficiently track, measure and quantify the data surrounding energy efficiency, conservation and renewable energy initiatives instantaneously on existing management dashboards through its Salesforce integration. This 360 view of their energy efficiency programs gave collaborators and operators the power to cross-correlate, analyze large data sets, to fully maximize the effectiveness of every detail of their campaign. From one simple dashboard, all parties involved could view where projects were in the pipeline, as well as easily dispense validated incentive payments and track sales leads and to better forecast outcomes.

DESEU Results

The ability to operate a singular tracking and management tool, gave DESEU program administrators confidence to expand programs and launch new campaigns that resulted in an increase of $2.4M in incentives and $10.34M in lifetime energy savings. Through energyOrbit, DESEU is now better able to organize and streamline partner and program collaboration, as well as manage the numerous moving parts and partners to work in concert to reach Delaware’s sustainability goals. By choosing energyOrbit the DESEU was able to not only coordinate with their current projects and partners, but continue to add on new ones.

Through the campaign, DESEU saw:

  • $2.4 M increase incentives
  • $10.34 increase lifetime energy savings

energyOrbit provided the platform to:

  • Create a Statewide Energy Savings Database
  • Track and report through a single dashboard.
  • Provide easier and more impactful analysis
  • Streamline collaboration

“Our partnership with energyOrbit saved us from the struggles of old and complex Excel spreadsheets, and allowed us to tap into the power of the commonly understood and respected platform of Salesforce. We hope that in time, this robust system will be adopted by all of the energy efficiency program administrators in Delaware.”

-Tony DePrima - Executive Director of DESEU
